The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UNCCD Ibrahim Thiaw.

The parties discussed enhancing cooperation with specialized UN structures to combat desertification and land degradation, prevent dust storms, and preserve biodiversity.

It was noted that the 21st session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 21) to the UNCCD plays an essential role in this process.

In the context of global environmental problems, practical measures aimed at protecting the environment and improving the ecological situation in Uzbekistan, particularly the work on adopting and implementing laws, regulations, and government programs, were discussed.

Ibrahim Thiaw emphasized the importance of Uzbekistan’s initiatives to restore the green world and the results achieved, noting that the country has become one of the leaders in preventing land degradation and restoring it, and with its practical actions is an example for everyone.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on continuing dialogue and cooperation on issues related to ecology, the environment, and climate change, the development of joint actions, and measures to mitigate its consequences.
