The Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan announced a new project about the Jadids
11:36 / 2024-07-17

The multimedia exhibition “Jadids. Letters to Turkestan”, dedicated to the Jadids’ initiatives in education and enlightenment, will open on July 18, 2024. The exhibition reveals the history of Turkestan students sent to study in Germany.

A separate space of more than 1,400 square meters was allocated specifically for the exhibition in the shopping center. The project is designed to attract the attention of a broad audience to an important chapter in Central Asia’s history.

As noted by Assistant to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, Jadidism, a significant socio-political and cultural movement of the early 20th century, played a key role in the development of the region and became a catalyst for many important changes that continue to influence society today. This chapter of history demonstrates how the pursuit of knowledge and progress changes society, helps overcome obstacles, and creates the foundation for a brighter future.

The exhibition features several sections and visual and audio installations in three languages. It offers visitors a unique experience of immersing themselves in the past through archival materials collected by Bahrom Irzayev, PhD in Historical Sciences. Multimedia projections demonstrate the Jadids’ history and desire for enlightenment and national independence. The exhibition’s scenography is divided into five chronological and thematic zones, which tell the story of the students of the Jadid era. The exhibition will also feature rare archival materials: letters, articles, and photographs from the Jadid era. Many of them will be presented for the first time.

The multimedia exhibition “Jadids. Letters to Turkestan” invites independent research and reflection on the importance of education, cultural exchange, and the desire for progress.
