The conference “Where in the World is Tashkent?” began as part of the project of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan for the research and preservation of the heritage of Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI.
The session entitled “Museums and the Preservation of Architecture”, was attended by the Chairperson of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan Gayane Umerova, as well as the directors of the Anthropology and History Museum of Mexico (Eduardo A. Escalante Carrillo), the Swiss Architecture Museum (Andreas Ruby), the Pinacoteca di Brera and Biblioteca Braidense in Milan (James Bradburne). The session is moderated by Beatrice Grenier, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Cartier Foundation.

The participants discussed the role of cultural institutions in critically rethinking the history of architecture and the potential of museums in generating knowledge and important examples of preserving modernist heritage.
The venue for the conference was the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, one of the most remarkable buildings of Tashkent modernism.
