Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Maksudov met with Deputy Minister of Culture of Saudi Arabia Fahd Al-Kanaan.
The parties discussed the development of cultural relations, the signing of relevant documents to further expand the legal framework in this area and other issues.
Mr. Fahd Al-Kanaan emphasized that interest in Uzbek culture and art, historical and religious monuments and sights of the country, cultural centers is very high in the world, including in Saudi Arabia.
The Deputy Minister also drew attention to the importance of active participation in major events, conferences and exhibitions on the territory of the two countries. In this sense, he expressed satisfaction with the participation of Uzbekistan delegation in the First Islamic Arts Biennale, which will begin its work in the city of Jeddah in the coming days and last for three months.
“The presentation of the historical heritage of Uzbekistan by the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers for Saudi art admirers and the international community is not only a great honor for us, but also adds a special touch to the event. At the same time, this conference provides an opportunity to establish international cooperation. I believe that the exhibits presented by Uzbekistan delegation will increase interest in their study”, Mr. Fahd Al-Kanaan said.
The exhibition in Jeddah will feature 17 exhibits reflecting Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage. Among them are several pages of the Kattalangar Quran of the 8th century, one of the most important manuscripts of the Islamic world, a collection of hadiths “Imam al-Bukhari’s Al-Jami 'as-Sahih” of the 17th century, ceramic jugs and bowls from Samarkand and Afrasiab of the 10th-12th centuries, national clothes and shoes, and others.
It should be noted that within the framework of the Biennale, the Foundation has prepared a broad program aimed at familiarizing with Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage.
