A Memorandum of Obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran was signed to obtain the status of an SCO member state.

SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming called today an important day for both Iran and the Organization.

“Iran’s accession into the group of member states will strengthen the Shanghai Cooperation Organization”, Zhang Ming said.

After the fulfillment of all obligations stipulated by the Memorandum, the Islamic Republic of Iran will become a full member of the SCO.

Iran became an observer country of the SCO in 2005. The process of the country’s accession to full membership began in 2021.
