At the Meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the CIS in Saint Petersburg, much attention was paid to monitoring the electoral process in the CIS countries.
In particular, the activities of international observers from the Interparliamentary Assembly on monitoring the presidential elections in Russia and Azerbaijan and the parliamentary elections in Belarus were considered.
The participants heard information about the activities of the IPA CIS’s permanent commissions on political issues, international cooperation, and defense and security.
The parliamentarians, in a display of respect for the views of all national delegations, thoroughly considered and approved the Draft Regulation on the observer status of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
Several other documents were also approved.
The head of the Uzbekistan delegation, the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva, invited international observers of the IPA CIS to take part in monitoring the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local councils in October this year.
