Tashkent to host SCO Half Marathon

In 2017-2021, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward almost 50 important initiatives at Shanghai Cooperation Organization summits.

A basis has been created for the development of multifaceted cooperation, the widespread introduction of relevant principles for the region’s countries.

On September 16-17, 2021, at the SCO summit in Dushanbe, the President listed several tasks recognized as priorities for the chairmanship of the organization. Following the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan on measures for the effective implementation of the chairmanship of the country in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2021-2022, a schedule of more than 80 events of various levels was approved. It is planned to hold the First International SCO Half Marathon as part of the Fourth Navruz International Marathon on March 27 to ensure the fulfillment of the tasks set, enhance the international image of Uzbekistan, and broadly involve young people.

The meeting of the working group on organizing and holding these international sports events at a high level was attended by senior officials of all responsible ministries and agencies, specialists from sports organizations. Issues related to the organization of the Half Marathon at a high level were considered in detail. It was announced that a working group was involved in the Athletics Federation of Uzbekistan to organize the First SCO International Half Marathon. The need for a prompt, organized solution of all issues related to the comprehensive high organization of this event, held both to further raise the authority of the country in the international arena, and promote a healthy lifestyle, was noted.
