On 25-26 September 2023, Tashkent will host a regional workshop on “Designing national counter-terrorism policy responses to counter the use of new technologies for terrorist purposes, while respecting human rights”.
The event is organized by the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
This regional workshop is part of the knowledge development phase of CT TECH, a joint initiative between UNOCT- UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) and INTERPOL, with financial support from the European Union.
The regional workshop in Tashkent plans to bring together more than 50 national representatives competent in countering terrorism – representatives of government and legislative structures, counter-terrorism agencies, law enforcement agencies, and criminal justice agencies - from Central Asian countries and Mongolia, as well as representatives of civil society, the private sector, and education institutions.
The workshop aims to raise awareness and disseminate new knowledge to participants, leading to the acquisition and application of new knowledge and skills regarding the challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies in the context of countering terrorism, while respecting human rights and the rule of law.
