Tashkent hosts the First Meeting of the Central Asia Regional Expert Council on rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees from armed conflict zones.
High representatives of the UN, OSCE, SCO RATS, CIS ATC, representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Uzbekistan, as well as more than 120 specialists and experts from Central Asian countries, international organizations in this field, including on bringing to justice persons suspected of committing criminal acts, are taking part in it.
The official launch of the activities of the Central Asia Regional Expert Council on rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees, initiated by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during an international conference in Tashkent on March 3-4, 2022, took place at the event.
The establishment of the expert council will make it possible to improve regional and national programs for the rehabilitation and reintegration of persons returned from conflict zones, as well as to develop proposals to improve the effectiveness of counter-terrorism measures.
In addition, the Regional Expert Council will act as a unique platform for the exchange of experience, strengthening interaction and coordination between experts from Central Asian countries.
The event will also result in the adoption of a roadmap for cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN CTU for 2024-2025. This document allows to bring bilateral practical cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
The roadmap provides for the organization of joint trainings, conferences, as well as providing the Uzbek side with technical, advisory and financial assistance in all aspects of countering terrorist threats.
