Tashkent hosts the 61st WBC Convention

The 61st Convention of the World Boxing Council started in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan O. Ramatov, Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia O. Umarov, WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, Minister of Youth Policy and Sports A. Ikramov, Chairman of the Trade Unions Federation of Uzbekistan K. Rafikov, and others addressed the opening ceremony of the event.

The event is attended by delegates from 100 countries, famous professional boxers, and representatives of promotion companies, including Evander Holyfield, Julio César Chávez, Konstantin Tszyu, Oleksandr Usik, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Amir Khan.

As the year ends, the WBC, like others, seeks to take stock of the year’s activities and outline goals for the future. The holding of the corresponding event in Tashkent is of historical significance. Its agenda includes meetings on education, doping, refereeing, international relations, boxing rules, ratings, championship belts, and charity and public initiatives.

Participants of the event will visit the ancient and eternally young Samarkand. World professional boxing stars will conduct master classes for young boxers in the country. On November 17, a significant professional boxing evening will take place at the Humo Arena, organized by the Uzbekistan promotion company LIFT. The fight will take place between super heavyweights Bakhodir Jalolov and Chris Thompson from South Africa. Abdumalik Khalakov, Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov, Mujibillo Tursunov, Kudratillo Abdukahharov will enter the ring. Mike Tyson is expected to visit Tashkent on November 16.
