Tashkent hosts COOMET meeting

The regular 36th meeting of the COOMET Committee, a regional organization of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM), was held in Tashkent. Representatives from 17 countries took part in it.

Issues such as harmonization of activities in metrology based on international requirements, acceleration of scientific research in cooperation with international experts, and establishment of constructive and intensive connections with global and regional organizations were discussed at the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting included the issue of choosing the president of the COOMET.

In October 2023, changes occurred in the administrative office of COOMET, and the representative of Uzbekistan – the Director of the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology – was elected Vice President of the organization for cooperation in legal metrology. The head of the Technical Committee “Legal Metrology” of COOMET also represents Uzbekistan.

According to the COOMET Charter, the organization is headed by a president, who is elected by the member states by closed voting for a period of three years. Presidential candidates are nominated from among representatives of member states.

Within the framework of government programs related to scientific and technical activities, work was carried out on 3 innovative projects with a total value of 3.7 billion UZS. As a result, 7 new initiatives worth 10.2 billion UZS were presented to the Agency for Innovative Development.
