Tashkent hosts a roundtable discussion in implementation of a national action plan on the UN Security Council Resolution

On December 18, an online roundtable discussion was held in Tashkent on “Best practices in development and implementation of a national action plan on the UN Security Council Resolution “Women, Peace and Security”.

The event was attended by senators, deputies, OSCE representatives, leading foreign experts, heads of non-governmental non-profit organizations and media representatives.

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva noted the importance of the developed national action plan on the resolution of the UN Security Council for the protection of women’s rights. It was noted that in Uzbekistan special attention is paid to increasing the role of women in the process of making vital decisions.

First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov informed that measures are being taken in the country to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in strengthening the role of women in society, ensuring gender equality and preventing discrimination against women. It was noted that the draft National Action Plan for the Women, Peace and Security Resolution identifies priority areas for the implementation of gender policy in an effort to achieve even better results.

The UN Security Council Resolution Women, Peace and Security was adopted on October 31, 2000 and recognizes that participation of women is important for preventing conflicts and establishing peace. 

At the event, foreign and local experts provided information on international experience in the implementation and monitoring of the national action plan for the UN resolution.
