Tashkent celebrates Chuseok Holiday

A festival of Korean culture – national holiday Chuseok has been held at the House of Korean Culture and Art, in Tashkent.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries and agencies, diplomatic missions, media, residents of Tashkent and regions.

A photo exhibition was organized, which tells about the life of Koreans in Uzbekistan, their resettlement to Central Asia.

The event was organized by the Association of Korean Cultural Centers with the assistance of the Korean Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

“Chuseok” means “Autumn Eve” in Korean and is a harvest festival that lasts for three days straight. It is scheduled based on the Korean lunar calendar, but it also always comes around the time of the Autumnal Equinox. Chuseok is sometimes referred to as “Korean Thanksgiving” due to its harvest associations and its timing in Autumn. Many South Koreans visit the hometown of their ancestors for Chuseok and feast there on traditional foods.

Chairman of the Association of Korean Cultural Centers of Uzbekistan Viktor Pak, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan Kang Jae Kwon, Chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan Rustam Kurbanov addressed the opening ceremony of the festival.
