Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva received the World Bank delegation led by the Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde, who arrived in Uzbekistan on a working visit.

Uzbekistan’s cooperation with this authoritative international financial institution is developing based on a strategic partnership. With the support of the bank, several projects have been implemented in Uzbekistan in modernizing energy, irrigation and utility networks, developing transport and social infrastructure, and processing agricultural products.

At the meeting, attention was paid to the practical aspects of cooperation. Views were exchanged on prospects for interaction, implementation of the program for the privatization of state enterprises, improving the efficiency of special economic zones, strengthening of the role of parliament, government and civil society in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as enhancing cooperation in gender equality.

The parties discussed the participation of the World Bank in attracting foreign companies to implement projects in various fields in Uzbekistan.

Anna Bjerde highly appreciated the success of the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and noted that economic transformations in the country are carried out in harmony with social reforms, and certain strategic goals of the state are determined based on social inclusiveness and social equality. In addition, she noted that the World Bank will continue to strive to enhance cooperation with Uzbekistan.
