The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Terhi Hakala and the EU Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore.

The current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, in particular, the development of inter-parliamentary ties, issues of interaction in ensuring human rights and freedoms were discussed at the meeting. The guests were informed about the process of human rights, gender equality, labor relations, the activities of the Oliy Majlis and the Youth Parliament. The role of the Parliament in the important political process currently taking place, in particular, constitutional reforms, democratic updates and transformations, were emphasized.

The Chairperson of the Senate noted that Uzbekistan is interested in the consistent development of mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union as the main international partner.

Representatives of the European Union highly appreciated the efforts aimed at ensuring the consistency of changes and reforms taking place in all spheres of society in Uzbekistan in recent years.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that the issues of ensuring gender equality, guaranteeing women's rights, strengthening their position in society and family have been raised to the level of state policy in Uzbekistan.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the practical enrichment of the content of the expanding bilateral dialogue.
