The 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament (14SWSP) of the member states of the Inter-Parliamentary Union continues at the International Congress Center in Tashkent.

The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva addressed the event.

“I am glad to see among us the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco and the Secretary General of this organization Martin Chungong”, Tanzila Narbayeva noted. – I express my special gratitude to them for supporting the initiative to hold a summit in Tashkent. This decision is clear evidence that the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan thanks to the political will of the President in the development of parliamentarism, ensuring gender equality and democratization of society, their practical results find worthy recognition in the world community.

It was noted that at a time when parliamentarism is actively developing all over the world, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is one of the most influential organizations in the world, makes a proper contribution to the development of democratic processes, ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens, strengthening stability on the planet.

This international organization promotes the empowerment of women, ensuring gender equality and strengthening the role of national parliaments in the sustainable development of countries, as well as their inclusiveness in this direction.

As a result of the implementation of the strategic plan of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the number of women parliamentarians in the world has increased from 23.4% to 26% over the past 5 years.
