Suvtushar Waterfall: The Miracle of Nature
13:06 / 2023-01-18

The charm of winter, first of all, lies in the snow cover, and this is visible, especially in the mountains. Despite the abnormal frosts, we will continue our extreme travels in search of charming views created by the great master – nature.

This time we went to the Suvtushar waterfall. When we were getting ready to go, we were told that snow-covered mountain roads pose a great danger to driving in winter. However, professional interest is above all, and we hit the road. First, we got to the center of the village of Ommogon in Shakhrisabz district, by a Niva car belonging to the local forestry, and then to the village of Suvtushar, by UAZ. Indeed, the mountain roads, which are dangerous even in summer, seemed impassable in the cold of winter. However, the driver was knowledgeable. Snow-covered roads ran through the foothills. There are mountain cliffs on one side, and a deep gorge on the other. Overcoming difficulties, we reached the Suvtushar village. And the waterfall is still far away. The car took us to a lonely path laid by the inspectors of the Gissar Reserve. We then walked to the waterfall.

Part of the Gissar State Reserve, which is distinguished by its unique landscapes, borders the village of Suvtushar in Shakhrisabz district. There is the Suvtushar waterfall in the upper part of the village. The waterfall gives a special charm to the area. The mountain river, tributaries, and rivers that originate on the territory of the reserve and flow through it create waterfalls of various shapes and types in their course. The Suvtushar waterfall is the largest of them. It is located on the part of Miraki at the beginning of the Suvtushar river at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level. The height of the waterfall is 84 meters, flowing between rocks and firs, it creates a picture of unique beauty. This attracts nature lovers.

The waterfall was formed due to the waters flowing from the snowy rocks of Osmontalash of the Gissar Range, at an altitude of 4,000 meters. A strong stream, playing a peculiar melody and resembling long, spreading braids of a beautiful peri, makes the water foam and turn white. That is why among the locals it is sometimes called the Suttushar (milky) waterfall.

The current anomalous cold has also affected the Suvtushar waterfall. The 84-meter waterfall is completely frozen. Majestic and beautiful in spring and summer, the waterfall is also beautiful in a frozen state.

To be honest, we were a little scared by the cold mountain air, but when we were at our destination, we felt the opposite. We even got hot while climbing the path, and finally, after a difficult journey, we saw a waterfall. No wonder they say, it’s better to see once than hear a hundred times. It is difficult to describe the charm of this place.

“The waterfall is one of the wonders of our area”, says Uygun Khasanov, Assistant Hokim in “Suvtushar” mahalla. Many visitors come to see it. At the initiative of the hokims of the district and region, large projects have been developed and are being implemented in stages to turn this territory into a tourist zone. The surroundings of the waterfall are beautiful at any time of the year. Apparently, in recent years, the waterfall has never frozen so much. But it’s even wonderful when frozen.

The top of the waterfall is completely frozen. Water pouring from above flows under the ice. The huge glacier above the waterfall looks like an eagle guarding its springs under its wings.

In winter, such miracles as the frozen Suvtushar waterfall give a person a unique experience. If you have the opportunity, visit this waterfall at least once and be filled with that unforgettable feeling that we experienced.
