22:25 / 2022-05-10

The first day of the Space Technology Conference STC-2022 in Tashkent was dedicated to the issue of space technology and its role in socio-economic development.

The organizers of the event are the Space Research and Technology Agency of Uzbekistan and the British company Dialogue Events Ltd.

The conference brought together over 200 participants from 110 companies and organizations in the field of space activities from 20 countries, as well as representatives of almost 30 ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan.

During the three sessions, the participants discussed such current themes as “Space technology: A sustainable driver for socio-economic development in Central Eurasia”, “The role of earth observation in sustainable development” and “New satellite technology: Design, manufacture, launch”.

The Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov noted that this conference will be the first big step toward becoming a regional hub in the field of information technology in Uzbekistan. “Even though Uzbekspace Agency was created quite recently, the Agency has ambitious goals. The process of achieving these goals will accelerate significantly if digitalization is integrated with space technologies”, the Minister emphasized.

Uzbekistan’s space technology and research industry are very young. However, the pace of its development is high, and it has long been clear that the exploration and use of outer space are unthinkable without broad and multifaceted cooperation between countries.

Chairman of the Board and President of the Turkish Space Agency Serdar Yildirim noted that Turkey’s Space Agency attaches great importance to relations with the Uzbekspace Agency. He emphasized that the parties should go hand in hand to achieve fruitful results.

Acting Director-General of Uzbekspace Agency Shukhrat Kadirov emphasized that the purpose of this platform is to tell government agencies, ministries and agencies, and large national companies about how geospatial data is used and about the results obtained from it. First of all, Uzbekspace Agency intends to get quick results by using space technologies in the sectors of the national economy, defense, and security. In this regard, such steps are being taken as training and retraining personnel in domestic and foreign universities and companies. And the study of international experience will make it possible to introduce appropriate changes to the normative-legal acts.
