The international premiere of Tamerlano, directed by Stefano Poda, took place at Dubai Opera on January 10, 2026, Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation reports.

The performance, implemented on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, presents a modern stage reading of George Frideric Handel’s Baroque opera, with dynamic drama, while preserving the artistic and musical integrity of the original.

Handel’s music was performed by Kirill Richter, accompanied by Uzbek national instruments. The National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, conducted by Alibek Kabdurakhmanov, the Honored Choral Group of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the orchestra of folk instruments, and more than 160 artists attended the performance.

The title role was performed by People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Jenisbek Piyazov.

Spanish tenor Juan Sancho, soprano Veronica Cangemi from Argentina, and Uzbekistan’s actress Yulduz Rajabova also performed on stage.
