23:51 / 2024-05-15

The Asian Women’s Forum, organized in Samarkand on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, proposed at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, has ended.

Representatives from more than 30 countries and international organizations participated in the prestigious conference.

The participants exchanged experiences in expanding women’s economic, social, and political rights and opportunities, and significant results were achieved in elevating efforts in this direction.

The adoption of the Samarkand Declaration is a clear indication of this, reflecting the most important goals of comprehensively strengthening guarantees of women’s rights and ensuring them in practice, achieving gender equality, preventing violence, and respecting humanitarian rights.

The declaration aims to ensure a 21st-century society in Asian countries where everyone lives in equality, development, and prosperity, where women and men work together to build a just world.

At the forum, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, noted that thanks to the high political will of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, ensuring the interests of women have become one of the priority areas of the country’s policy. As a result, the participation of women in making important decisions in Uzbekistan’s socio-political, economic, and spiritual life is significantly expanding.

Representatives of major international organizations – the UN and the Parliamentary Assembly – who addressed the forum also highly appreciated the work being done in Uzbekistan to ensure gender equality.
