State and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany discussed

On October 23, the International Institute for Central Asia hosted a roundtable discussion on “State and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany”.

The event was attended by Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Tilo Klinner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the expert community and the media of the two countries.

The participants noted the dynamic and progressive nature of the development of the Uzbekistan – German political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations, including within the framework of a constructive dialogue with the European Union.

Representatives of the German side noted that Uzbekistan is an important partner in Central Asia, which is an integral part of the continental and global security system.

Today for Uzbekistan Germany is the main trade and economic partner among the countries of the European Union.

In recent years, trade between states has grown by almost 60 percent. In terms of the growth rate of mutual trade, this is one of the highest indicators in the statistics of trade between Germany and the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS. In 2020, the trade between Uzbekistan and Germany exceeded $830 million.

There are more than 190 enterprises with the participation of investors from Germany in Uzbekistan.

Currently, over 300 thousand students of 1600 schools are studying German in Uzbekistan. In 10 schools the German language is studied in-depth, while in 6 of them – with the right to issue the German Language Diploma (DSD) in Tashkent, Samarkand, Margilan, Fergana and Bukhara. German is also studied by about 19 thousand students in higher education institutions of the country.

At the event, the participants confirmed their commitment to further deepen and strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany in all areas, including through expert and analytical circles.
