Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev has held talks with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Afghanistan and Regional Issues Jean Arnault.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, the parties discussed the efforts of Uzbekistan and the UN to resolve the Afghan problem and post-conflict reconstruction of the country.

Mr. Jean Arnault praised the policy pursued by the leadership of Uzbekistan for the peaceful resolution of the long-term Afghan crisis, the country’s integration into the regional political and economic process.

The UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy emphasized the role of Uzbekistan in launching direct inter-Afghan negotiations, which, according to him, will contribute to the establishment of long-awaited and stable peace in Afghanistan.

The parties exchanged views on priority areas of interaction between Uzbekistan and the UN in terms of promoting the peace negotiation process, as well as restoring the national economy of Afghanistan, and implementing infrastructure projects in the country.
