South Korean experience will accelerate the development of Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical industry

Uzbekistan delegation led by the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Alisher Shadmanov visits the Republic of Korea. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral cooperation in development of the healthcare system and the pharmaceutical industry.
During the visit, A.Shadmanov met with the Minister of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Korea Park Neung-hu. It was noted that the recent meeting of the two heads of state gave a great impetus to development of relations between the countries.
The parties discussed investment projects implemented in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, in particular, successful creation in Uzbekistan of Uzbekistan – Korea joint venture LLC Listem-Fergana for production of X-ray machines, as well as projects with Korean companies Dalim Biotech and Yuhan for organization of production of antidiabetic and medicinal drugs.
According to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the delegation got acquainted with the experience of the Republic of Korea in implementation of DUR (Drug Use Record) labeling system for medicines and medical products, which makes it possible to track each product in the chain of sales from the manufacturer to the end user. They also discussed the implementation of the Korean experience of the E-Health insurance and e-health system in Uzbekistan.
Following the negotiations, the ministers of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in healthcare. It was noted that this document will become the basis for strengthening cooperation in development of the pharmaceutical industry and enhancing investment in this area. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and the Korea Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. This document is intended to attract South Korean pharmaceutical companies to establish production and research centers in Uzbekistan.
