Sodiq Imomi: The region took a step towards further development

A meeting of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan Sodiq Imomi with journalists was held at the Information and Analytical Multimedia Center under the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, Sodiq Imomi emphasized that the recent state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Tajikistan is of historical significance, since it opened a new page in bilateral relations and contributed to resolve many issues in the interests of people of the two countries.

Relations between the two countries have risen to a qualitatively new level due to the aspiration of the heads of the two states to developing bilateral cooperation, using all opportunities.

Opening the checkpoints on Uzbek-Tajik state border became an important event in the life of people of the two countries, who are bound by brotherhood and good-neighborliness, gave an opportunity to meet relatives and friends living on both sides of the border.

During the meeting, the Ambassador drew attention to the issue of cooperation in water and energy sector. Construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station will not only produce electricity for Tajikistan, but will also allow it to be supplied to the states of the region, including Uzbekistan.

The Ambassador also raised the issue of Afghanistan. He noted that the situation in this country concerns not only the Afghan people, but also people of neighboring states, and emphasized the relevance of the upcoming Tashkent high-level international conference on Afghanistan “Peace process, security cooperation and regional collaboration” to be held on March 26-27.
