Nongovernmental non-commercial organizations working in this country are helping to uphold national values, to protect human rights and liberties as well as citizens’ legitimate interests, to raise their law culture and socio-economic activeness and to maintain society’s balance of interests.

Under the leadership of the country’s First President, a firm legal basis was created for the provision of state support for nongovernmental non-commercial organizations. Laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On nongovernmental non-commercial organizations”, “On guarantees of the activity of nongovernmental non-commercial organizations” and “On public funds” and other norm-setting regulatory documents serve as important guidance documents ensuring their independence, protecting their rights and legitimate interests and giving legal, organizational, material and technical support for their activity.

This was especially noted during a round-table conversation held in Andijon, eastern Uzbekistan, on the issue of further improving the work of nongovernmental non-commercial organizations for the area of women’s rights.

The event arranged at the initiative of the regional women’s committee was attended by specialists of the regional justice department and the independent institute for monitoring civil society formation, the chairpersons of district and town women’s committees, the heads of nongovernmental and non-commercial organizations working in the area of women’s rights and employees of mass media.

“There are more than 600 nongovernmental non-commercial organizations functioning in this region, and 23 of them work in the area of women’s rights. During today’s event, there was a thorough exchange of opinions on further raising their socio-political activeness and improving their work. Specialists gave detailed information about fruitful work organization within the law, about drawing up documents and about firming up cooperation with offices of state administration,” says M.Yunosova, the chairwoman of the regional women’s committee and deputy hokim (deputy governor) of the region.
