The People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan has convened for its 8th Congress.Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Kh.Ketmonov, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis – leader of the party’s faction in the lower house of the parliament U.Vafoev, the People’s Poet of Uzbekistan – Senator M.Toirov and others noted that the Concept of the Intensification of Democratic Reforms and Formation of Civil Society in the Country being consistently implemented under the leadership of President Islam Karimov epitomized a new stage in furthering the activities of political parties and public institutions.
Following the 2009 elections, the party has garnered certain amount of experience in the participation in addressing social issues concerning the interests of the electorate. Such divisions of the party as the youth wing “Istiqbol”, the women’s wing “Faol Ayollar” have been making their input into bolstering the political and law activity of youths, women and girls. Party groups are active in tackling a range of pressing issues like population employment, especially that of vocational college graduates, improvement of the sanitary conditions of residential areas, of public services, consolidation of economic and technological foundations of education institutions.
Such projects as “Mahalla as the center of targeted support for population”, “Deputy oversight and law enforcement practice”, “Financial support for initiatives and provision for employment of professional college graduates”, “From college to the enterprise”, “Employment of women is a guarantee of prosperous life” are acquiring important significance in augmenting the social security of the population and securing the rights and interests of women and girls.
Over the past period, the cooperation of the party with nongovernmental nonprofit organizations and other civil society institutions has expanded in the joint solution of social challenges concerning the interests and vital needs of the electorate. Also effective are the activities of the party’s faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The faction authored proposals on a range of draft laws.
The Congress delegates nominated candidates for membership of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. Participants also approved the election platform of the party along with the party’s Charter in a new edition.
