The 9th International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Problems of rational use of biological resources of the Southern Aral Sea region and their protection” was held at the Karakalpak branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The conference was dedicated to the conservation of biological diversity in the region. It was attended by representatives of leading scientific institutions of Uzbekistan and foreign countries, higher education institutions, other organizations, young scientists, doctoral students, and researchers.

“The study of the problems of the Aral Sea and the associated consequences has become the main object of research by scientists of the Karakalpak branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, says the Director of the Academy, Karakalpak Research Institute of Natural Sciences, Doctor of Environmental Sciences, Professor Svetlana Mambetullaeva. “Unique materials reflecting changes in the Aral Sea region have been collected”.

Leading scientists of the country familiarized the conference participants with the state of the natural environment of the Southern Aral Sea region. A discussion took place on land use issues and the concept of socio-economic development of regions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Proposals were made to preserve the natural environment of the region.
