Large-scale activity is carried out in Uzbekistan to further increase the tourism potential, strategies are being developed for cooperation with the UNWTO aimed at developing national and global tourism.

According to Dunyo News Agency, in 2020 Uzbekistan officially put forward its candidacy for hosting the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand in 2023. According to the voting results at the 24th UNWTO General Assembly in Madrid, Uzbekistan overtook Portugal. The announcement of Samarkand as the venue for the 25th UNWTO General Assembly in 2023 became undoubtedly a historic event.
