09:27 / 2024-04-23

This was announced by the Deputy Hokim of Samarkand region Rustam Kobilov at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Republican “Reading Week”, held under the slogan “Book-loving nation”.

“Libraries are being built in cities and districts, existing ones are being renovated, and hokimiyats and organizations working with youth have intensified the promotion of reading”, says Mr. Kobilov. “After a major overhaul and equipping with modern equipment, the regional information and library center could simultaneously serve over 500 readers. Several educational halls, a museum exhibition, a multimedia and scientific hall, a recording studio, meeting and discussion rooms, a digitalization sector, and a manuscript restoration and conservation service have been opened. The library purchased another set of office equipment, an interactive panel, and modern equipment for holding events. Computers are connected to high-speed Internet, and electronic registration and ID card issuance services are available”.

This year, Samarkand was declared the cultural capital of the CIS. By the end of the year, almost 20 major events are planned. In particular, the CIS Librarians Forum will be held on May 15.
