On October 18, 1996, a monument to Amir Temur was erected in Samarkand. On that day, the city was presented with a high state award – the Order of Amir Temur. Since then, October 18 in Uzbekistan is annually celebrated as Samarkand Day.
Within the framework of celebration of Samarkand Day, various events will be held in the city. Separate programs for the Day of the city are also prepared by theaters and art groups. In particular, on this day, “Mirzo Ulugbek” performance based on the work of Maksud Sheikhzade will be shown in the regional music and drama theater, and the stage work “The Star of Ulugbek” in the puppet theater.
Samarkand youth in order to get the #Samarkandday hashtag to trend in social networks are holding a photo contest “Samarkand is the most beautiful city”. A competition on “Do you know the history of Samarkand?” has been also announced.
Festive events will continue till October 18 evening.
