The Art and Culture Development Foundation and representatives of the Abbott World Marathon Majors have entered into an agreement according to which Samarkand Marathon is included in the qualifying round of the Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championship.
The Art and Culture Development Foundation is the initiator of the Samarkand Marathon project. The marathon has been held annually since 2019. For 3 years, over 6,000 participants from more than 40 countries have taken part in it.
The main goal of the project is to draw public attention to the issue of inclusiveness at cultural and art sites of the country, as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle and develop sports tourism in Uzbekistan.
This year’s Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championship qualifying races include the top 300 events in the world, as well as six of the most important marathons, now including the Samarkand Marathon. This means that every participant over the age of 40 will be able to earn points by participating in the Samarkand Marathon and will be included in the Abbott World Marathon Majors global age-group rankings. Those who achieve the best results will have the opportunity to participate in the World Marathon Championship, which takes place in London (UK), in their age groups.
The top runners (with the most ranking points) in each age group will be invited to the Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championships to be held in London in 2023 as part of the TCS London Marathon.
