Samarkand hosted the World Rowing and Canoeing Championships, which started on August 23.

The championship, attended by 500 athletes from 50 countries, is historic because it was held in Uzbekistan for the first time.

For three days, athletes competed to overcome 200, 500, 1000, and 5000 meters distances.

On August 24, the winners were determined among women (C1), men (C2), and mixed (K2) at distances of 1000 and 500 meters. On August 25, in the finals, canoe rowers demonstrated their skills in four programs at a distance of 5000 meters.

According to the results, athletes competing under the flag of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) won the overall team events. Athletes from Hungary, Portugal, China, Germany, Spain, and Poland also climbed the podium.

Unfortunately, Uzbekistan national team members couldn’t become medalists. Canoe rower Nurislam Tukhtasin ugli was close to victory, but crossed the finish line only fourth.

Among women, Dilnoza Rakhmatova showed the tenth result, and Shakhrizoda Mavlonova did not reach the final. Yaroslav Slavgorodsky became the thirteenth among kayak rowers at the same distance.

The organizers awarded the winners.
