12:32 / 2023-10-02

Samarkand hosts the Central Asian Youth Environmental Forum, dedicated to developing a Central Asian Strategy for promoting a culture of sustainable environmental development and involving children and youth in the climate agenda.

Over 60 environmental activists from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan are attending the forum.

The event, which will be held from October 1 to 5, is organized with the assistance of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, as well as with the participation of the “Zamin” International Public Foundation, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP, and FAO.

A trip around the city of Samarkand was organized for the forum participants. The guests got acquainted with cultural and historical monuments, the Eternal City complex, and other attractions.

The event is being held in connection with the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the United Arab Emirates, which provides for the recognition of the role of youth in the fight against climate change, the creation of a platform for young environmental activists to promote proposals and initiatives, and also the integration of the youth environmental movement in Central Asia.

Workshops, meetings with the participation of international experts, and discussions of the Central Asian Strategy will be organized during the event.
