Samarkand hosts a plenary session of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

The 54th plenary session of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was held. It was attended by delegations of parliaments, representatives of international partner organizations.

Members of parliaments considered many standard laws on elections, referendums and their organization. Several standard acts on security, science and education, intellectual activity and other areas were studied.

The Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko noted that the program of events within the framework of the Samarkand session is extensive.

“We are grateful to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the invitation to hold a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States in Samarkand”, said Valentina Matvienko. – In the year of the 30th anniversary of the Assembly, for the first time in its existence, we are holding a plenary session and the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly outside the headquarters in Saint Petersburg.

The Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva noted that over the past 30 years, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States has served as an effective platform for joint discussion of current issues related to strengthening cooperation between the Commonwealth countries, making important decisions. The Assembly makes a worthy contribution to the development of democratic processes, parliamentarism and civil society institutions in the CIS. Its role in ensuring friendship and solidarity between our countries is growing.

The Council members discussed the agenda of the 54th plenary session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, listened to information on the decisions of the Council of CIS Heads of State of October 14, 2022, as well as on the activities of several permanent commissions of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

The members of the Council supported the initiative to create an Expert Council on Ecology and Nature Management under the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and approved the Regulations on the Council.
