With the assistance of the Samarkand Regional Department of Justice, the designation Samarkand flatbread was registered on February 4, 2025, by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a geographical indication.

The Minister of Justice Akbar Toshkulov handed over to the Acting Hokim of Samarkand region, Adiz Babayev, a certificate of state registration of the name “Samarkand flatbread” as a geographical indication.

According to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Geographical Indications”, a geographical indication is a designation that identifies a product as originating from the territory of a specific geographical object, where the quality, reputation or other characteristics of the product largely depend on its geographical origin.

The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan is authorized to legally protect geographical indications.
