The number of people infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) in the world has reached 135 thousand people, and the number of deaths – almost 5 thousand.
To prevent the spread of this virus, mass festivals, sporting events, international conferences and other events are canceled in many countries. For this reason, the World Table Tennis Championships scheduled for March 22-29 in Busan, ITTF Challenge Italian Open, which was planned to be held in Riccione on April 1-5, the qualification tournament of the Asian Championship in Tehran, scheduled for April 21-23, have been postponed.
UzA Correspondent talked with the Chairman of Table Tennis Federation of Uzbekistan Saida Makhmudova. She shared her opinion about cancellation of these competitions, future plans and activities carried out to protect athletes from coronavirus.
“If the canceled competitions are then held in countries where cases of coronavirus infection have not been registered, then our athletes will take part in them after agreement with the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Health and the National Olympic Committee. We care about their health.
Recently, members of the national team Zokhid Kenjayev and Rimma Gufranova took part in competitions in Doha. After arrival, they immediately underwent a medical examination. They feel good. No symptoms of the disease were found. The chief physician of the federation conducts a medical examination every day before training to protect against coronavirus and monitor the health of athletes. Twice a year we conduct an in-depth medical examination at the National Olympic Committee.
Our main task is to get licenses for the Olympic Games. We hope that Zokhid Kenjayev and Rimma Gufranova will receive them”.
