Restoration of frescoes from the Varakhsha settlement
The planned restoration of a fresco discovered on the ruins of the Varakhsha settlement continues at the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation reports.
It was originally found during excavations of the palace near Bukhara in 1953 by V.A. Shishkin and restored in 1954 by the restorer of the Hermitage, P.I. Kostrov.

According to experts, the famous VII-century wall painting was located in the Red Hall of the palace of the rulers of the Sogdian Bukharkhudat dynasty.
It depicts a fantastic battle scene of hunters on white elephants with leopards and griffins.

The last time a part of the fresco was restored was in 2022 for the exposition in the Louvre at the exhibition “The Splendours of Uzbekistan’s Oases: at the Crossroads of the Caravan Routes”.
