Republic of Korea – Uzbekistan: Cooperation in the field of technical regulation

In Seoul, Akmal Jumanazarov, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation, met with Dae-ja Kim, Head of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS).

The meeting focused on the current state and prospects of relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in the field of technical regulation. Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation in standardization, implementing international standards, personnel training, and enhancing the work of technical committees.

During the meeting, it was noted that trade turnover between the two countries had reached $2.6 billion. The importance of harmonizing technical barriers to trade and product requirements to expand export markets was emphasized. In Uzbekistan, a laboratory for assessing the energy efficiency of household air conditioners has been established in collaboration with KCL, while work is underway with KATRI to enhance personnel qualifications in the textile sector. In addition, grants and technical assistance are being attracted through KOICA.

The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at implementing new joint projects, building modern laboratories, and strengthening cooperation in the areas of technical regulation, standardization, metrology, and conformity assessment.
