The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with the Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany Matthias Lüttenberg.

Matthias Lüttenberg inquired about the main activities of the Ombudsman, in connection with which information was provided on the work of the institute with citizens’ appeals, monitoring visits to closed institutions with limited freedom of movement to prevent torture, cooperation with representatives of civil society institutions and non-governmental non-profit organizations.

Mr. Lüttenberg highly appreciated the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan for the protection of human rights and freedoms. He noted the importance of the role of national human rights institutions.

The parties exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the human rights institutions of Uzbekistan and Germany.
