16:20 / 2023-04-01

A regular meeting of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place.

The issue of accreditation to the referendum of observers from foreign countries, international organizations and media representatives was discussed. The information of the chairmen of district commissions on the preparation and conduction of the referendum was also heard.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Z. Nizomkhujayev noted that these days preparations for a referendum on the draft Constitutional law are being actively carried out. The preparatory process is carried out in stages based on established norms and requirements.

CEC member Gulnoza Rakhimova made a presentation on the issue of accreditation of observers from foreign countries and international organizations.

It was noted that the Head of the ODIHR limited referendum observation mission, the Deputy Head and 10 members of the mission have already been accredited. Another 14 long-term observers who will work as part of the mission have also been accredited. The role of the media is important in conducting a referendum openly and transparently. Media representatives regularly cover and deliver information to the public about the process of the event.

Based on the appeals received by the Central Election Commission, representatives of 32 local media – 284 journalists were accredited.

Accreditation of media representatives is valid from the moment it is confirmed until the day the results of the referendum are announced. The CEC may prematurely terminate the powers of media representatives if they fail to comply with established requirements and norms.
