Reducing air pollution discussed in Geneva
21:53 / 2023-09-05

Geneva hosts the 61st Session of the Working Group on Strategies and Review (Air Convention).

The session was organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution, established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

The head of the Air Environment Protection Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Azizjon Kalimbetov represents Uzbekistan.

The Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution, often abbreviated as Air Convention or CLRTAP, is intended to protect the human environment against air pollution and to gradually reduce and prevent air pollution, including long-range transboundary air pollution. It is implemented by the European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (EMEP), directed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

The convention opened for signature on November 13, 1979, and entered into force on March 16, 1983.

In Uzbekistan, as well as throughout the world, the development of energy can lead to excessive air pollution with exhaust gases.

The convention will make it possible to take concrete measures to control and reduce emissions into the atmosphere in Uzbekistan and the neighboring countries of Central Asia. As a result, a significant reduction in the negative impact on human health can be achieved.
