The 22nd Summit of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States kicked off in Samarkand on September 16, Anadolu Agency reports.

On September 16, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in the welcoming ceremony of the heads of observer states and delegations of special guests at the SCO Summit in Samarkand. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed the summit participants at the Eternal City Cultural-Ethnographic Complex.

Following the welcoming ceremony and joint photographing, the leaders of the countries held talks in an expanded format. 

The talks are attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of China Xi Jinping, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi; leaders of observer countries: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi; invited leaders: President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
