Tashkent hosted a roundtable discussion focusing on the development goals of public-private partnerships (PPPs) outlined in the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation, gathered government officials, experts from local and international financial institutions, and investors.
Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ravshan Gulomov, Director of the International Finance Corporation for Türkiye and Central Asia Wiebke Schlömer, World Bank Country Manager for Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli, World Bank Energy Practice Manager for Central Asia and Europe Stephanie Gil, ADB Country Director for Uzbekistan Kanokpan Lao-Araya and others spoke about the work being carried out in Uzbekistan based on public-private partnership and the importance of international cooperation in this direction.
As noted, the event was organized considering the changing needs in public-private partnerships in Uzbekistan based on current goals and objectives set by the government, recommendations from international financial institutions, and ongoing amendments to the PPP legislation. The event facilitated a comprehensive exchange of opinions, ideas, and strategies to identify new sectors for PPP projects, with a particular focus on increasing efficiency and advancing the digitalization of the PPP project lifecycle.
The need to create a solid fiscal base to ensure the financial sustainability of the public-private partnership program and its integration into the country’s economic strategy as a critical factor in stimulating economic growth was noted. International cooperation and experience are essential in this regard.
The event participants emphasized the need to continue cooperation between the public and private sectors, improve the use of financial resources for project preparation, and create a more favorable regulatory environment.
Following the event, several important agreements were signed, which indicates that another significant step has been taken to achieve Uzbekistan’s strategic development goals.
