Public discussions were held on the project for the construction of the Tebinbulak Mining and Metallurgical Plant

More than 80 active citizens living in the settlement of Karatau and the Karauzyak District of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and representatives of more than 12 small businesses took part in the public discussions on the project “Construction of the mining and metallurgical complex based on the Tebinbulak deposit in Karauzyak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, on July 6.

Public discussions were organized by Triangul Metals Tebinbulak together with the Administration of Karauzyak region and held in accordance with the requirements of Annex 3 to Cabinet of Ministers Decree No. 541 of September 7, 2020. 

At the public meetings, information was presented about the MMC project, the outlook for its implementation for the region’s economic development, the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the population, and the impact on the livelihoods of the local people and the environment.

The project involves the construction of the first mining and metallurgical plant with Central Asia’s first direct reduction of iron (DRI) plant and will supply the domestic market with up to 1.8 million tons of iron metallurgical raw materials a year. 

Young people’s employment and professional retraining were particularly acute for the locals. The locals were excited by the plans of MMC Tebinbulak. 

Tebinbulak to create more than 5000 jobs, where preference will be given to the local population based on professional skills. 

At the meeting, it was also noted that the project pays special attention to introducing several environmental protection measures, which exclude the possibility of deterioration of the ecological situation in the proposed construction area. For example, the facilities will be equipped with 30 dust and gas filters and scrubbers installed, which will retain up to 99.5% of the emissions, and water recycling will be used to use the water at Tebinbulak rationally.

It was noted that the government foresees several special conditions for project implementation, including the creation of a special industrial zone (SPZ) “Qorao’zak” and its provision with external road-transport and engineering-communication infrastructure (roads, water supply, sewerage, gas, electricity, telecommunication).

Following the meeting, all those present expressed their support for the project and hoped that the construction of the MMC would positively impact the region's development.
