Protection of intellectual property strengthens

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, in Geneva.

The parties discussed the issues of protecting intellectual property and continuing joint work aimed at improving the position of Uzbekistan in the WIPO Global Innovation Index.

Daren Tang noted that he was closely following the transformations taking place in the protection of intellectual property rights in Uzbekistan, carefully studied the Intellectual Property Development Strategy for 2022-2026 approved by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He noted that WIPO is ready to provide comprehensive assistance to Uzbekistan in further improvement of national legislation, strengthening the protection of intellectual property, and the widespread introduction of scientific achievements.

The parties noted the need for creating national brands and protecting geographical names. An agreement was reached on WIPO’s support for several initiatives of Uzbekistan in intellectual property.
