Protection of human rights is strengthening
The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), in cooperation with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, holds a roundtable discussion on “Organizational and legal development of the national preventive mechanism: international documents, peculiarities of foreign practice and experience of Uzbekistan”.
The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), in cooperation with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, holds a roundtable discussion on “Organizational and legal development of the national preventive mechanism: international documents, peculiarities of foreign practice and experience of Uzbekistan”, in Wyndham Tashkent hotel.The event is being attended by members of the Oliy Majlis chambers, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, a number of international organizations, specialists from Georgia and Kazakhstan.
At the event, the Regulations on international documents for development of the National preventive mechanism of the United Nations and implementation of the National preventive mechanism, by the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), which provides for measures on preventing torture, violence and other cruel or degrading treatment were discussed.
Within the framework of the program of measures, held in Uzbekistan, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Ombudsman developed normative and legal acts consisting of draft laws and regulations on formation of a national preventive mechanism and strengthening the parliamentary control over ensuring the rights of prisoners.
The experts expressed their confidence that with the adoption of these documents, strengthening of the system of protection of human rights and freedoms will be achieved in the national legislation.
The roundtable discussion will last two days.
