Protecting the ozone layer and environment are top priorities
11:37 / 2022-09-21

The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed 35 years ago. This is an international environmental agreement that regulates the production and consumption of chemicals called ozone-depleting substances. The Protocol has been ratified by 198 UN Member States.

The theme of this year’s International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is “Montreal Protocol@35: Global Cooperation to Protect Life on Earth”.

Uzbekistan is taking several effective measures to protect the ozone layer, the environment, and strengthen international cooperation in this direction.

Achievements in this field were noted during several events held by UNDP and Tashkent State Technical University together with the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Ecology and Environmental Protection within the framework of a targeted project funded by the Global Environment Facility.

Three winners received educational grants for one year to continue their studies in the technological machines and equipment (refrigeration engineering) of the Faculty of Mechanics at TSTU.

The winners of the international competition of scientific articles were also awarded. Its participants demonstrated their knowledge and experience, which, according to the evaluation commission, will help interested decision-makers in carrying out further measures and policies to protect the ozone layer.

Within the framework of the ongoing measures to protect the ozone layer, thematic lessons are being held throughout the country in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan. The environmental knowledge gained by schoolchildren will be used in practice in the future to promote joint environmental protection activities.
