Prospects for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO discussed

The World Trade Organization Department of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a roundtable discussion on “Uzbekistan’s WTO accession: Special and preferential treatment in agriculture”.

The event was attended by members of the Senate and Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Foreign Affairs, Investment, Industry and Trade, the Service of Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, professors, and students of the Westminster International University in Tashkent, Tashkent State University of Law and UWED.

Participants discussed special and preferential treatment of the World Trade Organization that can be used in Uzbekistan’s agriculture, the benefits and consequences of joining the WTO for Uzbekistan’s agriculture, taking into account changes in trade rules, the impact of Uzbekistan’s membership in the World Trade Organization on its national economic growth goals, ensuring employment.

Following the event, recommendations were developed to ensure compliance with the national development goals of Uzbekistan’s trade policy with international standards.
