Prospects for Uzbekistan – European cooperation and Constitutional reform in Uzbekistan discussed at the European Parliament

The European Parliament hosted a briefing on Uzbekistan, which provided information on the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan – European cooperation, joint events planned for the current year, as well as the constitutional reform in the country.

Fulvio Martusciello, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for Central Asia and Mongolia, noted that relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union, including inter-parliamentary cooperation, have been developing steadily in recent years.

It was noted that the national referendum, an important political event scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan on April 30 this year, is of great interest to the European Union, and the European side expects positive changes from this process.

The Head of the Delegation of Uzbekistan to the EU, Dilyor Khakimov, informed the deputies of the European Parliament about the essence of the constitutional reform, preparations for the referendum and ongoing reforms. In particular, it was noted that comprehensive measures are being taken based on a new approach to the organization of the Constitutional reform.

Following the briefing, views were exchanged with representatives of the European Parliament on the implementation of the initiatives put forward as part of the reform.
