09:00 / 2025-02-17

A delegation from the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), led by Director Javlon Vakhabov, visited the Area Study Centre at the University of Peshawar as part of a visit to Pakistan.

The Director of the Center, Professor Shabir Ahmad Khan, highlighted the institution’s achievements since its establishment in 1975, emphasizing that the Pakistani institute plays a key role in academic research and knowledge exchange in critical regional fields.

The delegation explored various center departments, including the library, lecture hall, academic building, and the Alisher Navoi Corner, where university representatives noted the deep historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

Scholars from Peshawar also introduced the scientific journal “Central Asia”, which has been published by the center since 1978. The internationally indexed journal is recognized by Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission.

Mr. Vakhabov emphasized the special importance of academic cooperation, including joint research and the exchange of scholars. He also noted that such initiatives contribute to in-depth studies of regional issues, developing collaborative projects, and creating opportunities for knowledge and experience sharing.

The parties expressed their readiness to work together on research in politics, economics, security, and regional connectivity. This cooperation will facilitate the accumulation of knowledge and experience while establishing a unified information space, where studies conducted by different institutions will complement each other, providing a comprehensive understanding of ongoing developments.

In conclusion, Professor Shabir Ahmad Khan thanked the delegation for their visit. He expressed confidence that joint initiatives, such as roundtables, conferences, and research projects, will be essential in strengthening academic ties and fostering intellectual development at a higher level.
